RETN Milestones 10 years after…
RETN Backbone now The RETN backbone is a homogeneous international fiber optic network infrastructure with NOC in Moscow.
RETN DWDM network, short qualification • Topologically, the RETN network is composed of a large pan-European ring connecting Russia with Western Europe through its northern and southern routes. The southern route goes through the Ukraine and Central Europe. The southern route currently has double and triple optic backbones all over its length. The northern route is protected from Stockholm to St. Petersburg.
RETN = Big Pipes & Bandwith Services • RETN DWDM Capacity RETN DWDM Capacity ("Wavelegth") is provisioned in the form of a non-switchable point-to-point DWDM wavelength that provides constant and committed availability of capacity on a transmission path between two fixed RETN PoPs. The RETN DWDM Capacity is offered in speeds up to N х 10/100Gbps. Wavelengths are offering as unprotected and protected services. • RETN IP Transit RETN IP Transit provides access to RETN’s IP network, which have multiple interconnections with another public IP networks around the World (Internet). RETN IP Transit service achieve the transmit/receive of data according to customers interests. Global connectivity of RETN IP backbone with another Internet networks actualize by BGP with RETN Autonomous System AS 9002. The RETN IP Transit is Carrier-to Carrier class of service and is offered in speeds up to N х 10/100Gbps. RETN IP Transit is provided IPv4/IPv6 addressing and Unicast/Multicast techniques. • RETN L2VPNs - Layer 2 Provider Provisioned Virtual Private Point-to-Point Networks service. • RETN VPLS – Virtual Private LAN service. • RETN L3 VPNs - Layer 2 Provider Provisioned Virtual Private multipoint Networks service.
II. AROUND ARMENIA (Martian view) Internet users – maybe 0.5Mln. External traffic – maybe 40-50G.
II. AROUND ARMENIA: Backbones RTT from RU:1. 45ms (Baku) 2. 85ms (Ams) 3. 35ms (Poti?) GNC External connectivity is provided through GE only but have variability…
III. Foreign-owned Content Control Example. Content legal for AM & World but illegal for RU. 1. Content is on RU hosting Black List: Dura lex, sedlex __________________________ 2. World hosting What a shame? Why? If { GNC-Alfa /*Ростелеком*/ ARMENTEL /*Билайн*/ Vivacell /*MTC*/ } use RU Black list for AM then goto{ UCOM /*free*/ FiberNet+ ADC /*free*/ CCS /*free*/ … } Choice of upstream provider: Are there a conflict or problems? Maybe is it just …expenses? ;)
IV. Two models: «West» vs. «Ost» «WEST» «OST» Long Haul Fiber-Optic - ?puzzle? Border transition – ?puzzle? or forbid Transit backbone providing - under license ISP – under licence Content-control –first filtering, second investigation ;) Small number of ISP and carriers.Small IT economic sector. $$$ • Long Haul Fiber-Optic - $$ • Border transition – by rule and understandable • Transit backbone providing – as rule free • ISP – under rule/license • Content-control – rather spying than filtering large number of providers. Large IT economic sector. $$$$$$$$$$
