Imperialism Leads to War • France, Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Russia were all powerful imperialistic countries • They did not have equal shares of land/riches, so they became rivals which eventually led to war
1. Imperial Nations Become Militarized • Imperial nations mistrust one another • Build bigger armies and navies to outdo each other • Industrial nations also build bigger, deadlier weapons
Alliance System • European nations form alliances to help each other if attacked • 1914 2 rival alliances in place
Rival Alliances • Triple Alliance – Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy • Triple Entente – Great Britain, France, and Russia
