  3. ESTONIA Our school: Location SAAREMAA island Kuressaare

  4. Our school: Details • The oldest secondary school on the Saaremaa island (1865) — many traditions • 870 students in age 7 - 19 y (grades 1-12) • 50 teaches + 50 other staff • Goal: to give traditional secondary education and prepare young people for universities

  5. ICT resources: History • 1982: Soviet programmable calculators • Used in math lessons

  6. ICT resources: History • 1983: first real and big computer Nairi-K • Used for teaching of programming in math lessons

  7. ICT resources: History • 1985: 10 personalcomputers Agat(Soviet clones of Apple). • Special computer lessons started

  8. ICT resources: History • 1991: 20 Estonian personal school computers Juku • Computer lab was established

  9. ICT resources: History • 1992: an “IBM-compatible” 286 was bought for book-keepers

  10. ICT resources: Today • 2 computer labs by 18 computers in each + data projector • Used to teach computer science and other subjects

  12. ICT resources: Today • Lecture Hall for 90 students with: • multimedia computer + data/video projector • audio and video tape recorders • Used for lessons and conferences

Teaching: Computers • Forms 1 – 4: Basic computer skills • Windows, Word, Paint, PowerPoint • Form 8: Training basic skills • Forms 10 – 11: Advanced skills • European Computer Driving License certification programme— for all • mulimedia and web possibilities— for ICT-language classes • programming in Pascal, Basic, Flash, Java — for Physics-Math classes

Teaching: Subjects • Using computers in lessons (physics, math, geography, biology, languages…) • Special software (Crocodile Clips, dictionaries, encyclopaediaes…) • Teacher’s-made materials (on the School web page) • Workshops in Computer Labs (using special educational web sites or search engines)
