General aspects • Globally innovative for actors - SME-s, municipalities microregions, • New idea in tourism promotion - attractions with built cultural heritage in the area of the wine route- Baroque Castle of Szölőskislak as place of gastronomical events • Preservation of cultural heritage in the context of built heritage - reactivate historical buildings, with the involvement of the business sector - roman road with Cavpona wine cellar organising Bacchus days with famous musicians in summer, Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
General aspects • Focus on rural area - to innovate local initiatives to join or integrate into regional development programme - Somogyvári Benedictian Abbey. The first county town was Somogyvár – presently rural teritorryThe Benedictine abbey was founded in 1091 with monks invited from France. Wine and grapes were here introduced first by them. • Initiate new processes - to strenghten regional identity and cooperation e.g. row of winecellars in Balatonberény for thematic presentation of old professions • Sustainable operation - joint individual and common sources with the involvement of SME-s and regional authorities and touristic organisations Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Background • Rich variety of built cultural heritage in Somogy County from the Roman Empire through medieval chapels, churchruines, castles with gothic and baroque style,to farmer cottages • Unique geographical situation - boarder between a touristic area and disadvanteged area Lake Balaton = Hungarian Sea in neighbourhood ofa rural area with high rate of unemployment, poor local business activity, very low infrastructure • Creative and enthusiastic enterpreneurs Resultof the privatisation process Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Objectives • Castles and mansions • Regionally characteristic/rustic old buildings in the neigbourhood of wineyards e.g Légli Potterhouse offering accomodation and studydays for families with children • Old historical places with cultural heritage on or nearby the wine route Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Targets • Visitors, tourists attanding the Hungarian sea, Lake Balaton • Local businesses and enterpreneurs active in gastronomy and hotelery services • Local municipalities as owners of built cultural heritage • Microregions of the wine route: Siófok, Balatonföldvár, Balatonlelle, Fonyód, Marcali Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Goals • Complex promotion of the wineroute focusing on built cultural heritage in the area -output- wine Beadecker(guide) • Creation of a „Wine Center” promoting the wine route and all qualified wineyards of the region • New touristic products for visitors with changing attitudes and behaviour • Extend shortseason • Develop high quality businesses – special local offer for touristic services Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Strategy for implementation • Identify local actors willing to invest : SME-s, , civil organisations, communities and municipalities • identify tourism and other governmental agencies and authorities for support • work with educational institutions of the region giving push to old professions able to reborn with local business initiatives and improve awereness of high quality touristic products Somogy County Council will provide technical and institutional assistance in the procedure of the cooperation between private and public sector to encourage and coordinate all creative initiatives concerning revalorisation of cultural heritage Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005

Large scale of ideas in the region • Pogányvölgye programmes - new born historical legends –festivals Somogyvár Benedictianus Abbey: musical events , scenes and plays on great Hungarian kings : Steven the statefounder ,László etc. • Somogyvámos- Pusta Tower – local attraction plan for renovation • Chapel in Gyugy – local attraction • Chapel in Buzsák –White Chapel – local attraction • Chapel in Öreglak - local attraction – plan for renovation • Winecellars row: Táska, Buzsák, Balatonberény – with joint cooperation of individual wine makers • Zamárdi: old farmer cottage – plan for developing accomodation • Balatonszemes: Bujdosó Pince - promotion of local gastronomy - plan for developing accomodation • Old Presshouse– Kishegy Balatonlelle - plan for accomadation Cultured – Workshop - Spain Ubeda 17-18-19 October 2005
Realistic approach • Global and complex promotion of the Wine Route with focus on cultural built heritage located in the area • „ Wine Route Center” located in Balatonboglár Fischl House – a baroque building owned by the local municipality presently serving various purposes of events to be renovated for the „Promotion Centre „ of the winerregion like in Szekszárd south of Hungary.
