3. Anecdote • An anecdote is a short story, usually serving to make the listeners laugh or ponder over a topic. Generally, the anecdote will relate to the subject matter that the group of people is discussing.

4. Anecdote • At the beginning of a speech about fire safety, the speaker tells a short cautionary tale about a serious injury that occurred as a result of not following protocol. • The teacher tells her students about the amazing filed trip they will be going on next month

Analogy • The definition of an analogy is a likeness or a comparison between two things that have some features that are the same and others which are different. • Doesn’t compare all of the aspects – focuses on the similarities, relationship, and process • Can be ideas, patterns, objects, or emotions • The point is to provide clarity for the reader

Humour and Sarcasm • Aside • Satire • Joke • Wisecrack • any clever remark about a particular person or thing, quick wordplays about a person. • wit that is critical humor, sarcasm that makes fun of something • short story ending with a funny climactic twist. • a thought added as if something the speaker was saying reminded him of it.

10. Exaggeration • When you make something showier, or more noticeable than normal, that's also called exaggeration. The exaggeration of your hand movements might be necessary on stage so the audience can see them, but in real life it just looks silly.
