Critiquing an Article with Dr. Nancy Heilbronner & Dr. Jane Gangi Feb. 3, 2011
On the Bus with Vonnie Lee We will read: Angrosino, M. V. (1994). On the bus with Vonnie Lee: Explorations in life history and metaphor. Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, 23, 14-28. We will revisit Narrative Inquiry later in the semester.
Narrative Inquiry “Story…is a portal through which a person enters the world and by which his or her experience of the world is interpreted and made personally meaningful. Viewed this way, narrative is the phenomena studied in inquiry. Narrative inquiry, the study of experience as story, then, is first and foremost a way of thinking about experience. Narrative inquiry as a methodology entails a view of the phenomena” (p. 477).
Handouts • Critique of Qualitative Research Articles: Rubrics and Guidelines • Journals That Publish Qualitative Research and Qualitative Research Websites • Creswell’s Table on 5 Qualitative Research Methodologies • Dr. Heilbronner’s documents FORTHCOMING: A Bibliography of Suggested Qualitative Studies Published in Journals.
