  2. Phobia • It is a irrational intense, persistent fear of certian situations, activities, things, or people. The main symptoms of this disorder is excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subjects.

  3. Symptoms • Shortness of breath or smothering sensation, chest pain or discomfort. Palpitations-pounding heart rate, accelerated heart rate, trembling or shaking, feeling of choking, sweating, nausea, fear of dying, numbness or tingling sensation, hot or cold flashes, fainting.

  4. Diagnosis • Diagnosis is based on the patients account of the experiences.

  5. Those Affected • Affects 12% of Americans every year approximately experience phobias that are moderate to severe.

  6. Causes With all anxiety disorders children and adolescents are more likely at greater risk for developing a social phobia when they have parents with a anxiety disorder. Causes by a combination of biological and environmental factors (emotional trauma, disturbances and unpleasant behavior)

  7. Treatment • Exposure Therapy-drawing the object out, read about the object, look at pictures of the object, watch videos of the object, watch the object through a closed window, look through a partly opened window, look through a door at the object, get closer to the object, having the object brought near you.

  8. Getting Help • Getting cognitive behavioral therapy and over 75% of people who get it overcome there fears.
