Spelling and grammatical errors. Not explaining gaps in employment. Not including all required attachments. Leaving the hiring manager confused with the information you provided on the application.

  3. How To Prepare For an Interview

  4. Research the Company • Know exactly what the company produces or who they serve. The more you know, the better you are. • Know the company history and the goals of the company. Determine how you can fit into their environment. • Know why you want to work for the organization.

  5. Appearance Your first impression is key! • For men: Dress pants or khaki’s, button up shirt and a tie. For professional positions, a suit is to be worn. • For ladies: Dress pants and a nice blouse or a dress or a skirt and a nice blouse. For professional positions, a suit is to be worn. • Make sure your clothes are ironed and clean.

  6. Appearance • Take a shower, comb/brush your hair and shave. • Refrain from smoking prior to the interview. • Use a breath mint or chew gum prior to the interview. • Use cologne/perfume sparingly.

First Impressions: Body Language • Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake and a smile. • Keep eye contact while introducing yourself. • When you meet the interviewer, repeat their name and say “nice to meet you.” • Speak clearly and with confidence. • Sit in confident upright position. Do not slouch or lean back in your chair. • Do not chew gum during the interview. • Do NOT bring your cell phone to the interview.

  8. The InterviewB. Answering Questions Be honest and be yourself. Never fabricate your skills or experience. Most managers can see right through exaggeration. Give clear concise answers. Do not deviate from the question or ramble on during your answer. Do not interrupt the interviewer.

  9. The InterviewC. Ending the Interview Reiterate your interest for the position. Shake hands with all interviewers again with making eye contact and a smile. Thank them for the opportunity to interview.
