Website Design: Creating Your Pages and Finishing Your Website Tuesday, February 22nd-Tuesday, March 1st
IMPORTANT NOTES • Probably the most important step to note is how to create a new page in Dreamweaver. Well, there is no complicated series of steps for this… • Most of you have a Home Page by now, complete with graphics, animations, and a menu bar. To create a new page, simply re-type the Main Content information, so that it applies to the current page, and when you go to File > Save As, save the file with a different name, like “About Us.”
IMPORTANT NOTES • The following series of slides will detail exactly what needs to be on each of your pages. You will need to have SIX pages total (you may have more, and most of you might). • The evaluations will begin on Wednesday, March 2nd. A rubric will be given to you on Monday, February 28th, so that you can double-check to make sure that you have everything you need heading into the evaluations.
THE HOME PAGE • You MUST have these items on the Home Page: • A title (for your website) and a Tag Line, located in the Header Bar. • A logo • A menu (either or the left-hand side or at the top, under the Header Bar. You must use the Spry Menu Bar options to create interactive menus. • All Menu items will need to be hyperlinked to the appropriate pages. • A Search bar should be included somewhere where it is easy to find. How do I create a Search bar? > Dreamweaver > Spry tab > Spry Validation Text Field (it is the first option in the middle Spry tab). You may also insert through html code if you like. This menu bar is for design purposes, so creating an active link is optional. • A Flash animation must be inserted. This animation is used as an advertisement to capture the viewer’s attention. • The Main Content section should contain TWO PARAGRAPHS ( at LEAST THREE full sentences) explaining your website.
ABOUT US • You MUST have these items on the Home Page: • A title (for your website) and a Tag Line, located in the Header Bar. • A logo • A menu (either or the left-hand side or at the top, under the Header Bar. You must use the Spry Menu Bar options to create interactive menus. • All Menu items will need to be hyperlinked to the appropriate pages. • A Search bar should be included somewhere where it is easy to find. • The Main Content section should be about you/your company/product. This section is autobiographical. You will need to write about the history of your subject, how it came to be. GIVE AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE. You should have AT LEAST THREE PARAGRAPHS of content information (at least THREE sentences per paragraph). Be as detailed as possible. How do I create on of these? > Dreamweaver > Spry tab > Spry Validation Text Field (it is the first option in the middle Spry tab). You may also insert through html code if you like. This menu bar is for design purposes, so creating an active link is optional. 7. Don’t forget have a link to go back to the HOME PAGE!
PURCHASING INFORMATION On this page, you want to have items VISIBLE that the viewer can purchase. List AT LEAST THREE ITEMS (with images) plus the following content: Product title, price listing, and brief description. Create an Enter Quantity box (see below) Create a Size Box (see below) Create a graphic, in Photoshop, of the products you are advertising. You will need to show three of these on this page. In addition to the above items, make sure to include items #1-#5 from the previous slides, AND DON’T FORGET TO LINK BACK TO THE HOME PAGE!
CONTACT On this page, you want to have contact information, such as: an address, email, and a map. For the map, you can create a 5” X 5” file in Photoshop, and use whatever tools necessary to show a general overview (local streets, interstates, townships) of where your business is located. Hyperlink Maps and Directions to the Photoshop image (map) that you create. In addition to the above items, make sure to include items #1-#5 from the previous slides, AND DON’T FORGET TO LINK BACK TO THE HOME PAGE!
EVENTS, example 1 There are two ways that you can create this page. 1. you can create a calendar (to do this, go to Insert > Layout > Table. You can change the size of your table, and you can insert in anywhere you like. You can type in certain dates, and hyperlink those dates. You should create your calendar for the month of March, 2011. The table to the left is rather small, but it at least shows you what it will look like once you insert it. You can change the size of the table down in the Properties menu. You can type in the boxes (for dates and events). In addition to the above items, make sure to include items #1-#5 from the previous slides, AND DON’T FORGET TO LINK BACK TO THE HOME PAGE!
EVENTS, example 2 2. you can create a list of AT LEAST FOUR SPECIAL EVENTS, happening this calendar month. You don’t need to add a link for EVENT DETAILS, as long as you explain what each event is (1 full sentence will do). In addition to the above items, make sure to include items #1-#5 from the previous slides, AND DON’T FORGET TO LINK BACK TO THE HOME PAGE!
REGISTER On this page, you simply want to insert menu bars that allow the customer to resiter. For example: Name: Address: Phone: Email: Age: *if there is anything else you can think to add, go for it! *On this page, you may want to add a sentence saying, “for further information, contact (insert your name and email). In addition to the above items, make sure to include items #1-#5 from the previous slides, AND DON’T FORGET TO LINK BACK TO THE HOME PAGE!
