Conference Objective • Create a Tennessee based 1-2 day veterans academic support conference • Focused on methods to support military-connected students during their enrollment in institutions of higher education • Two conferences • One in Western region of Tennessee • One in Eastern region of Tennessee • VETS designated campuses • Join with any public or private not-for-profit • Need to identify fiscal agent institution
Intent of Conferences • Share ideas and best practices between institutions • View veterans academic support from Universities, Community Colleges, & TCATs • Combine multiple concepts • Veterans success strategies • Adult learner strategies • Maximize attendance by Administrators, faculty, and staff • lodging and travel authorized
Grant Award & Eligibility • Award up to $100,000 per grant contract • July 31, 2019 through January 31, 2020 • Anticipated date Fall 2019 • Minimize student learning interruptions • Primary applicants- VETS designated campuses • Other public & private not-for-profit campuses can join in on proposals • One campus must identify as fiscal agent
Budgeting of Funds (pg. 4-5) • Cost of hosting meetings in preparation • Hire professional event planners or temporary hires • Facility & equipment rentals • Food & beverage • Lodging & travel • Marketing- regional & encourage state wide • Indirect-Maximum 8% NOTE: * Institutions submitting a proposal should not negotiate or execute any contracts related to their proposal until grants have been awarded and a contract executed with THEC
Required Sessions (pg. 6) • Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) options to veterans • State developed Veterans PLA website database • Veterans Reconnect grants such as Military Pathways Pilot Project • Veterans Financial Aid options • (GI Bill, Reconnect, Pell grant, etc.) • Tennessee Reconnect Community network (TRC) • Additional support to veterans and adult students by TRC Navigators • TDVS-Empowerment Training • Military veterans’ transition challenges & offers empowering resources to assist veterans’ success on campus

Grant Criteria (pg. 7-8) • Grantees will plan and implement a conference focusing on the transition and support strategies enhancing academic success of military, veterans, and associated dependents attending higher education. These strategies will encompass the spectrum from recruitment to eventual employment • Grantees will develop and implement a comprehensive program itinerary focused on military veteran students within the state of Tennessee
Grant Criteria-cont. (pg. 7-8) • Grantees will ensure conference sessions are inclusive of community colleges, TCATs, and Universities from the public and non-profit private sectors within the state of Tennessee • Grantees will ensure sessions are inclusive of administrators, faculty, and staff, along with higher education governing and coordinating bodies • Grantees will organize personnel, event planning and scheduling, logistics, marketing and other functions to implement the conference
Format (pg. 8) • NOTE: The narrative portion of the proposal should be limited to 10 pages. This does not include the cover page, project abstract, budget template, and appended lists. Use no smaller 12 point font and 1.5 spacing.
