In-Text Citations • Must correspond to the Works Cited page! • Parenthetical Citations– they go in parenthesis! • (Authorlastname pg#) OR mention the author and then put (pg#).
Other issues? • No author? Multiple works by same author? • (“Article Title” pg#) • Authors with the same last name? • (Firstinitial. Authorslastname pg#) • Multiple authors • (Lastname, Lastname, Lastname pg#)
Correctly Formatting Parenthetical Citations • Direct Quote • According to Mrs. Sullivan, “The best students in the world are CIS students” (35). • Paraphrase • CIS students are the best in the world (Sullivan 35). • Period goes OUTSIDE the final parenthesis. • Citation goes OUTSIDE the end quotes.
Italics, Underline, or Quotation Marks? • Short works– “Quotation marks” • Poems, songs, articles, essays • Lengthy works/ typed– Italicized • Books, newspapers, movies, magazines • Lengthy works/ hand-written-- Underlined
