Goals for Today • To understand the process for becoming a volunteer at KES • To know who to contact if you have any questions • To know the benefits to being involved with your child’s school • To understand the different opportunities KES has for parents to be involved in the school • To answer any questions you have about volunteering at KES

What Steps Do I Need to Take? • Complete the district form • Complete the volunteer orientation course • Determine what type of volunteering you are interested in • Morning, afternoon, or evening? • At the school or take home work? • Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Special events?
Why Be Involved? • Get connected! • Discover great resources • Tap into an amazing network of people • Watch yourself grow • Speak Up! • Learn more about the day-to-day happenings at the school • Witness improvement as it happens
How Can You Be Involved? • Act as a classroom helper • Read to students • Volunteer in a school computer lab • Help organize or work at fundraising activities such as PTA or Title I events • Help to plan and chaperone field trips and other events that take place
How Can You Be Involved? • Help to plan and chaperone in-school events • Organize or assist with a specific club or interest group (if you have an interest in an activity that isn't currently available to students, offer to help get a group started — for example, a chess club or cycling team) • Attend school board meetings • Work as a library assistant or offer to help with story time or reading assistance in the school library • Sew costumes or build sets for theatrical and musical productions

How Can You Be Involved? • Help out with visual arts, crafts, and music courses and projects • Spend some time with a specific club or interest group (ask the teacher who sponsors the group) • Volunteer to speak in the classroom or at a career day, if you have a field of expertise that you'd like to share • Ask the grade level PTA parent representative to gather take home projects for you to work on
