My Hobbies ▪ gymnastics ▪ baseball ▪ taekwondo
Other interesting things about me ▪ I love reading ▪ My favourite author is Paul Jennings ▪ I hate pumpkin ▪ My great-grandmother is 96 years old ▪ I love going to the beach ▪ I had surfing lessons last summer ▪ I have epilepsy
Epilepsy is a condition that causes the messages in my brain to get mixed up. These mixed up messages are called seizures.
About my epilepsy I have absence seizures ▪ Absence seizures involve my whole brain ▪ My seizures start suddenly ▪ My seizures only last a few seconds. ▪ Some days I can have lots of seizures
What you will notice during my seizures ▪ I suddenly start to stare ▪ My eyes roll back ▪ I don’t answer if you talk to me ▪ You may think I am daydreaming
How I feel after my seizure ▪ tired ▪ confused ▪ muddled ▪ embarrassed ▪ nervous ▪scared
How you can help me Quietly tell the teacher I am having a seizure. Remind me what I was doing before my seizure. Repeat any instructions I may have missed. Be patient as I may need a couple of minutes to re-focus. Reassure me if I seem scared.
Remember Having epilepsy doesn’t stop me from doing anything other kids do ! Sometimes I just need to be a little extra careful.
