  3. Intake • BASI • Identify within 72 hours student strengths and needs in ELA & Math • Make a preliminary placement • Within 2 weeks obtain additional data from schools and curriculum based measures

BASI Student Learning Objective AreasEnglish Language Arts (ELA) Reading Comprehension Recalls relevant details in a passage Follows written directions Vocabulary • Uses knowledge of context cues within a sentence to determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word • Uses knowledge of prefixes to determine word meaning Language Mechanics • Applies knowledge of subject/verb agreement • Uses the correct form of an adverb

  6. BASI Test Item Correlations to DE Content Standards

It must be noted that the academic skill areas tested on the BASI should not be interpreted as the total universe of academic content to be addressed in DSCYF educational programs, but is a foundation of skills that will aid students to read and compute at a level that will enable them to successfully return to school and/or become employed upon exiting services.

  8. Placement in Class BASI data verified within first 2 weeks via curriculum based measures

  9. Educational Planning Team (EPT) ED (and/or Principal) Teacher(s) Other staff Meet weekly to monitor student academic progress….maybe week before scheduled clinical meeting….

  10. Instruction Educational Planning Team (EPT) utilizes student needs identified on BASI to focus instruction in ELA and Math Correlation of READ 180, several Ferris courses, and Saxon/Glencoe Math to BASI

  11. On-going Response to Instruction (RTI) Monitored EPT meets on every student at least every 3 weeks to review academic progress, etc. Curriculum based measures administered to monitor process EPT tracks process on BASI learning objectives

  12. Employability and Employment Skill Key Concept Topics • Targeting Success • Employment Work Maturity • Jobs for Delaware Graduates • Ferris Program • ‘In-School’ Program

  14. Role of the Educational Diagnostician (ED) Is the primary ‘ring master’ for the the Education Planning Process Is supported at various sites by teacher aides, teachers, and guidance staff in meeting responsibilities Primary contact in transition with student’s school
