STOP…LOOK…LISTEN LESSON NINE • Today’s Lesson: Learning from Jesus’ connections with people • Theme: Jesus built relationships with people as He taught them about salvation • Objective: To learn how we can build successful relationships with others • Key passages: John 3:1-16; John 4:4-30, 39-4 • “People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN • John 1:1-14 • Where was Jesus before He became flesh? • What happens when you turn on a light in a dark room? • How is Jesus a light? • When the Word became flesh, what did He show the world? • Why do you think God chose to send His Word into the world as a human? • To show Deity to man, to demonstrate His love for man, and to prove His desire for a relationship with man
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN • Jesus and Nicodemus (John 3:1-16) • Who was Nicodemus? • Why did He come to Jesus at night? • How did Nicodemus, and the other rulers, know that Jesus had come from God? • If Nicodemus knew that Jesus was from God, why didn’t he follow Jesus openly? • Did He condemn Nicodemus for coming secretly? • What curious statement did Jesus make to Nicodemus? • What did Nicodemus think Jesus was talking about? • What was Jesus actually talking about? • What did Nicodemus not understand (vss. 9-16)? • What does this conversation teach us about God’s desire for a relationship with us, and of Jesus’ role in making it happen?
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN • Jesus and the Samaritan woman (John 4:4-30, 39-42) • When Jesus left Judea to go to Galilee, why is it noteworthy that He passed through Samaria? • How did Jesus establish a connection between Himself and the woman, so that she would listen to Him? • Once Jesus had her attention, what did He offer her, and how did she respond? • What caused her to perceive that Jesus was a prophet? • What did Jesus tell her about the proper place and way to worship? • What does Jesus’ statement teach us about God’s desire for a relationship with people? • How did His relationship with this woman open a door for Jesus to meet other people?
STOP…LOOK…LISTEN • “People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” • What can we learn from these examples that we can do today to be better at sharing the Gospel with people we meet? • Next time: lesson 10!
