  2. Teacher introduction Welcome to Mrs. Roszak’s Classroom Since 2001: 5th to 3rd to 4th to 2nd to 3rd

  3. Classroom procedures/Schedule • We begin our day by following an agenda when we enter the classroom. Notes are also given to me at that time. In the morning classes, we have a morning meeting. • Math Workshop (3R)/Reading (3P) • Science/SS (3R)*/Writer’s Workshop (3P) • Lunch/ Recess • Reader’s Workshop (3R)/Math Workshop (3P) • Recess/Recess • Specials • Writer’s Workshop (3R)/Science/SS (3P) *there is an occasional Special during the AM

Goal Setting/digital Portfolios • Setting goals and tracking progress has been linked to greater student achievement. • Students are setting goals in subject areas, tracking their own progress and celebrating success. This is shown in their notebooks and/or Digital Portfolios. • Assessments/graphs to keep track of their goals/progress will be kept in notebooks or digital portfolio (shown in pictures).

  5. 3rd Grade Bucket List • Students have identified what they would like to achieve this year • Students created goals • Students will track and confer on progress/achievement • Celebrate and create new goals!

Seasonal Family bucket lists • Along with students’ individual goals we would like to provide you with fun family activity goals should you wish to join in with our “bucket list” theme at home • Activities are designed to encourage opportunities for family togetherness • Posted on website and sent home each season • Enjoy!!!

  7. Classroom Expectations The DeRospos Mission Statement: We will work hard every day, and we will be kind, helpful listeners who are clean and respectful! Students are responsible for monitoring their own behavior throughout the day. • Positive choices are celebrated through praise, positive reinforcement, individual tickets, and class compliments. • Respect Contract • Reflection on behaviors that need ”fixing”

How Do We Use Fix It Tickets In Our Classroom? • Everyone makes a mistake sometimes. • We all deserve a moment to take a break and fix our mistake. • If a break doesn’t help and the behavior continues, a fix it ticket will help students reflect on their behavior. • When a “fix-it” ticket is filled out, depending on severity, additional strategies will be implemented, such as a phone call home to discuss behavior.

  9. HOW TO FILL OUT A TICKET: Explain the mistake you made. List three things you will do to fix your mistake. Sign your name and bring the ticket to me.

EnVision Math Topics include: Place Value, Multi-Digit Addition/Subtraction, Multiplication, Fractions, Measurement and Data, Time, and Shape Attributes (plus more) Main Focus: • Fact Fluency- practice addition/subtraction, multiplication/division math facts nightly! Xtra Math is great for fact practice on the computer. • Problem Solving- analyzing and solving complex word problems • Modeling and Reasoning…..explaining your work. • Building Number Sense and apply to higher level thinking/real life scenarios • Math Workshop • Mini-lesson: 2 small groups • Schoology/ • Independent work • Teacher-centered strategy: 4 small groups

  11. Pearson • During math workshop students will have assignments to complete on Pearson. • www.pearsonrealize.com • Students watch videos for review, complete practice activities, and complete lesson assessments (immediate feedback)

Science/Social Studies/Health • Science and Social Studies Units of Study • Communities, Human Geography, Citizens and Government, Expressions of Culture • Weather/Climate, Forces/Motion, Traits and Heredity, Changes in the Environment, Living Things • Health • Social and emotional health focus (Morning Meeting) in the curriculum along with topics such as healthy eating and exercise

  13. Home learning • Please check your child’s Home Learning Agenda/Planner for daily assignments/messages. • Assigned Monday - Thursday • On a typical day the students will be asked to read for 20 minutes and complete a fluency choice board assignment for Math.

  14. Home Learning • Fact Fluency activities should be done daily at home. Throughout the year fact fluency will be tracked by using a choiceboard; please support student completion with your signature after each activity is done. We will move through all four operations. • Foundational for problem solving!  • No homework on Fridays! 

Online Tools • On your child’s desk, you will find a paper with log in information for freckle and Xtramath.org • Freckle offers adaptive learning as well as fluency practice. • Xtramath helps build fluency. • Other websites that are helpful: www.freckle.comMath and Language Arts www.harcourtschool.comSocial Studies www.scholastic.com/bookwizardbook leveling (click on Teachers)

  19. Field Trip, Class Parties, Classroom Visitors • Parent Volunteers are needed to help out at parties and join us on our field trip. A sign up sheet with exact dates will be sent home soon. • Four parties: Halloween, Winter Festival, Spring Fling, and End of the Year • Party activities include a craft, a game, a book • Additional opportunities to visit our classrooms to read or share your experiences/talents will be available this year! • Mystery Reader, Share Culture, Morning Meeting Activity
