Vinson Ltd : Everest, Evie, Eve’s Delight, Sweet Eve • -Plant Sciences : Arabella, Prize, Triumph

  2. Rumba • -Fresh Forward • -Alternative for Honeoye/Clery • -Early ripening • -For wholesale market • -Conical berries with gloss and good fruit shape/set • -High chilling requierement

  3. Rumba • -High fruit weight • -Glossy after storage • -Firmness and taste average rating • -Colour is bright red and not as purple after picking as Clery and Honeoye

  4. Rumba • -Compact strong planttype • -Strong petioles • -Long flowertrusses • -Easy picking • -Strawberries click off easily

  5. Rumba • High yielding with a continuous long productioncycle • -A few days later than Clery but a longer extended harvestperiod

  6. Rumba • Not susceptible for rootdiseases • Not susceptible for mildew (oidium) • Not much Botrytis

  7. Rumba • -no special nutritional needs • -risk is to high boron in water/soil • <<leafnecrosis • <<flowerabortion • <<smaller fruit and dry calyx • <<Low boron fertilsing, maxl 60 ppm in leaves • max 20 µmol/l=0.2 mg/l in Wat

  8. Allegro (FF1602) • -Early variety • -2 days after Clery • -higher fruit weight and yield : + 20 %

  9. Allegro • -Vigorous with long flower trusses • -Needs less nitrogen • -Flowers under canopy and less susceptible to night frost • -Well suited for covering with fleece or rowcover

  10. FF1602 Clery

  11. Allegro • +Uniform fruit size on average 20 gram • +Conical fruits • +first fruits can be ridged • + can have a neck in rain periods

  12. Allegro • +Bright red colour of fruits • +Good firmness • +Brix comparable to Clery but better taste then Rumba and Clery • +Glossy fruits and can be stored well

  13. Allegro • +Low susceptibility to Phytopthora cactorum and Verticillium and Mildew • +Less susceptible to fruitrot (Botrytis) compared to Clery • -Susceptible to Colletotrichum (Antracnose)

  14. Allegro • +Suited as fresh green plant and misted tip • <should not be planted too deep • <well drained soil • <needs regular irigation after planting • <Antracnose preventive spray

  15. SONATA • Selektion PRI-9802 • Fresh Forward • Cross Elsanta x Polka • Midseason junebearer

  16. Sonata • -Very good pollen quality and easy fruit set • No misshaped • -2 -3 days later than Elsanta

  17. Sonata • -Short conical fruits • -Very uniform medium size • -Colour orange red and inside pink • -Does not colour after storage • -Sweet taste and more juicy than Elsanta • -Very glossy berries also during storage

  18. SONATA Produktion • -Good yields outside in soil • -Because of easy fruit set good variety to grow under rowcover and perforated plastic sheet • -Fast to pick, berries click off easily, not grading

  19. SONATA • -Winterhardy compared to Elsanta • -Good adapted in northern areas with high chilling • -Good yields with Frigoplants • -Less susceptible to raindamage compared to Elsanta

  20. Elsanta Sonata

  21. SONATA Diseases • -less susceptible to mildew (Sphaerotheca mac.) and angular leaf spot (Xanthomonas) • -susceptible for red core root rot (Phytophthora cactorum and Rhizoctonia • -attracts aphids especially under plastic

  22. SONATA Nutrition • -Higher need of manganese Mn and iron Fe • -Optimum pH is necesssary <NH4NO3 • -Fe/Mn = 3/2 • -MnSO4 and Fechelate in dripirrigation or with foliar application (1-2 kg/ha) • -Needs a higher dosis of Magnesium • <Kieseriet in preplant (100 kg/ha) • <Fertilisation of MSO4 Bittersalz with drip irrigation or foliar treatment(50 kg/ha)

  23. SONATA Outdoor production • -More frost resistant than Elsanta • -Frigoplants in double row system 40-45.000/ha • -Cover with sheet lutrasil for winterprotection • -Good yield in late June-early July

  24. SONATA • -Sonata flowers covered by the leafs which protects them from late night frost • -In „Freiland“ strong vegetative multicrowned plants which can be very productive • -Strawberries can be covered partially by leaves and first trusses are usually short<<a preventive treatment against Botrytis and Rhizoctonia are necessary

  25. SONATA Magnesium • -Needs a higher dosis of Magnsium • <Kieseriet in preplant (100 kg/ha) • <Fertilisation of MSO4 Bittersalz with drip irrigation or foliar treatment(50 kg/ha)

  26. SONATA Manganese and Iron • -Higher need of manganese Mn and iron Fe • -Optimum pH is necesssary <NH4NO3 • -Fe/Mn = 3/2 • -MnSO4 and Fechelate in dripirrigation or with foliar application (1-2 kg/ha)

  27. SONATA Outdoor production • -More frost resistant than Elsanta • -Frigoplants in double row system 40-45.000/ha • -Cover with sheet lutrasil for winterprotection • -Good yield in late June-early July

  28. Salsa • Selektion: PRI 9803 • Fresh Forward • Cross from Chandler x Polka • Late variety, about a week after Elsanta

  29. SALSA Diseases • -Resistent for wilt (Verticillium) so ideally on infected soils • -Tolerant for mildew • -Less susceptible to crown and leather rot (Phytophthora cactorum) • -Susceptible for fruit rot (Botrytis)

  30. Salsa • -Less susceptible for winterfrost and late night frost • Very vegetative plant • -High yield and high percentage of large fruits (30 % more than Elsanta) • -First fruits are irregular, next fruits large conical

  31. SALSA • -Red fruit internally white colour • -Very juicy • -Average taste • -Skin can be soft • -Variety for direct sales
