  1. Request to reposition KL trolley:

  2. Background: • EMR commissioning run was scheduled in Feb12: • Could then have moved it to its Step IV position and continued build on Tracker #1 base plate • EMR commissioning run now scheduled for May/Jun: • Implies ~5 months when it is not required • Request is therefore to move trolley to allow work to continue: • Would require staff storage of TOF2, KL and the trolley as has been done in the past

  3. Advantages: • Floor ready, so can begin installation of air levitated platforms for the two spectrometers and the rolling platform for the AFC • And can test the integrity of the three systems under load

  4. Putting the trolley back: • Two possibilities: • Replace trolley in Step IV position: • Advantage: • Another step ahead in the preparation of Step IV • Note that we have to pull cables etc. all quite a bit of work • Disadvantage: • Rate • The loss of rate could be estimated; is it enough? • Requirement: • The Lh2 system has been tested (its in the way for Step IV) • Replace trolley in the Step I position: • Advantage: • Rate • Disadvantage: • Will need to move KL to Step IV position in parallel to receiving first solenoid if it is delivered in June • In addition, will require to reposition cables at a time when electrical effort will be in demand for the spectrometer solenoid installation • My opinion: • Need to know estimated rate: • Is this an analysis group question? • If rate is not punitively low, my view would be that the additional effort required to relocate the trolley (plus TOF, KL, EMR, cables and services) at the same time as receiving and installing the spectrometer solenoids should be avoided; • So, under these conditions I would: • Move the trolley, TOF2, KL to safe storage after the December run (i.e. in January) • Build up the floor etc. for Step IV • Implement the cables and services for trolley, TOF2, KL, EMR • Install trolley, TOF2, KL, EMR in Step IV position
