About DSM Engineering • DSM works on various engineering projects, such as wind powered shipping, biofuels, fuel efficient planes, and much more. • Locally, DSM chemical engineers work on nutritional products such as vitamins, carotenoids, and UV filters. • Majority of these products are nature-identical. In other words, natural chemicals are manufactured.

  3. The Internship Experience • To intern at DSM, extensive college lab experience is required. • Instead of a direct internship, I was given a tour of the lab and lunch with other chemical engineers. • During the tour of the lab, they explained the process DSM chemical engineers follow to manufacture chemicals. • During lunch, I was able to ask questions about chemical engineering.

  4. What I’ve Learned • I am still interested in the research side of chemical engineering. • This experience made me realize that I’m interested in inorganic chemistry more than organic chemistry. • Overall, the educational requirements, typical day, and earnings for a chemical engineer are what I expected.
