  1. The Great Gatsby Gangsters Mylinda Blankenship

  2. Goal • Students love the idea of reading a book about bootleggers and prohibition. This game will focus on one specific character from the 1920s that is working his/her way to the top illegally just like Gatsby did. • This game will mainly be to build background knowledge of this time period before we read the novel.

  3. The Secret Sell • This game will work like a virtual world type of game. • The avatar will encounter some characters from the actual novel. They will receive descriptions about the characters and the time period at the end of each level (what they are secretly learning). • The last level is becoming high enough as a bootlegger to meet the elusive Jay Gatsby.

  4. Strategies • Using and creating an avatar to start their career • Working towards badges that make the character’s status higher in the crime world • Leaderboard for each class • Progress bar for meeting Jay Gatsby • Links to websites about the 1920s to help them navigate the game.

  5. Starting Out • Student will create a character (male or female) • They will meet with the character of Meyer Wolfsheim to give them their first task. • They must answer questions correctly when they interact with characters to get further along

  6. Each Level • The player will complete a task assigned by Wolfsheim • They must make money; they get money by answer questions correctly • The end of each level they meet with another character: Jordan, Tom, Daisy, Nick, and Gatsby

  7. If you want to work for me, you gotta talk and act like a gangster. Explore the clothing store and talk to some people. Then find me again to pass the gangster test. Here is some money. Don’t make me regret it! First Task Meyer Wolfsheim

  8. I want to look like a flapper! Can you pick out the items that can change my appearance? There will be various types of clothing for this time period. The player will pick the correct clothing and then get a reward if they are correct. If they are not correct there will be a website link to direct them to.

  9. Dynamite! Let’s get to talking! We need to find a speakeasy to make some more money! !

  10. You are one of Wolfsheims? I am having a get together for business associates. Do you know where I can get some of the gigglewater? I can reward you for your troubles. The player will have to meet with Wolfsheim again to make this deal. They will learn the first steps for bootlegging.
