  2. My objectives? • Use a K.I.S.S. approach to help othersbuild a web site for fun. • Show how it can be done with free software programs. • Develop interest in a QCS Webmaster SIG.

  3. What do you need to get started in simple web page design? • A web page editor • An image editor • An address or location on the web All three are available without cost!

  4. Class members receive a free CD with these downloads: Photo Editing programs: PaintShop Pro (two trial versions), Gimp, Irfanview, and Picasa. FrontPage Express: WYSIWYG page editor WS_FTP95: a file transfer utility

  5. Is that really enough? • Yes, these programs are good enough to build respectable pages. • The new QCS site was designed using only FrontPage Express. • Beginners find the simpler programs easier to learn.

  6. In FrontPage Express, you instantly see how your page will appear on the Web. It’s fun to use and works a lot like MS Word.

  7. GeoCities:Our Free Host Site • 15 MB of space for each personal web site. • Simple upload and file management systems

  8. Reviews are posted after each session to help class members working at home. My GeoCities’ web site for Web Page 101:

  9. 101 Schedule • Three weekly beginner sessions are a “jump start” into web design. • Monthly follow-up sessions are scheduled for additional help. • Watch Q-Bits newsletter or www.qcs.org for the next beginner session.
