  1. AAS Scaling Pathways KS&L Workshop – 27 & 28 February, 01 March 2014KS&L + Gender Joint-Workshop – 03 March 2014

  2. KS&L teams championing the AAS RinD Approach

  3. AAS’ Program-level ToC Scaling pathways (3) Scaling up and out (of research output) Strengthening capacity to innovate (through research process) Influencing RinD (globally)

  4. Three Scaling Pathways

  5. Scaling Pathway 1: Scaling Out and Scaling Up

  6. Scaling Pathway 2: Strengthening capacity to innovate

  7. Network Weaving in the Philippines

  8. Research can do three things • Solve problems, create knowledge, produce output • Build capacity • Build links

  9. How does KS&L help with the scaling pathways? • Discuss in groups

  10. AAS’ Program-level ToC Scaling pathways (3) Scaling up and out (of research output) Strengthening capacity to innovate (through research process) Influencing RinD (globally)

  11. Scaling Pathways • Compared partnerships across hubs. Differences. Some quite transactional. Bringing stakeholders together and identify common areas of strength, interest and motivation – a network weaving exercise. Identify what motivates stakeholders and common agenda. For both pathways. • Promote community action research – help documentation, communities never document. Help understand existing networks in hubs to build on those networks to be more sustainable. • PAR and reflection and learning helps with both pathways. Change mindsets part of building an enabling environment. To challenge power relationships, gender norms, need link to GTA. Pathway 2.

  12. Scaling Pathways • Many dimensions of scaling in Bangladesh, within existing projects (large bilaterals). Not one single approach. Pathway 3 – require shift in mindset of colleagues working in ‘traditional’ projects. Show results is one way of nudging. Part of KS strategy. • Bilateralswhere WorldFish is working as partner – how can bring in elements of AAS Approach? Negotiate with donor to slow down to explore how to do this – influencing to move along pathway 3. • DevCommseffective in pathway 1 in Bangladesh, will be organic • Interesting research questions about how move along pathways, how KS&L supports this.
