City Of Perth Parking CPP Mobile Application Presentation By Patrick Abernathy, Manager Off-Street Parking
CPP Vision “To be the number one choice for parking within the City of Perth by encouraging innovation and balancing our commercial obligations with our community service and environmental responsibilities”
CPP Overview • CPP was established 1999 • Manages 34 open-air and under-cover car parks • CPP is responsible for approximately 10,700 off-street and 6,000 on-street fee-paying bays • Over 10.2 million motorists park at the City’s facilities annually • Ongoing emphasis on Greener parking, sustainability and quality customer service.
Why Mobile Apps? Over 70% of the world have a mobile or smart phone By 2016, mobile devices are expected to account for nearly 60 per cent of internet data traffic. Analysts also predict that 375 million tablets will be sold in 2012 and one third of them will be sold directly to business. Mobile applications posses innovative features and functions that are unique to mobile devices, such as mobility, personality, flexibility which includes anytime, anywhere access.
CPP Mobile Apps In January 2012, CPP launched mobile apps for iPhone and Android phones. As at 7 June 2013 CPP have had Android 4,808 and iPhone 20,400 downloads.
Real Time Bay Availability In an Australian first, the City of Perth Parking incorporated real-time bay availability into the mobile apps and the CPP website. Bay availability is provided at selected CPP car parks. Saving our patrons time by allowing them to find a parking space more easily.
Mobile App Features Features within the app allow customers to identify details about each car park, when their allotted parking time expires and where their car is parked.
GPS Usage Coordinates – last 7 Days CPP are able to determine the GPS co-ordinates of when and where the App is launched. The map indicates the spread of app launches over the last 7 days across the CBD and metropolitan areas.
Mobile App Awards CPP’s mobile app has received previous recognition; • The Parking Australia Awards (PAA) – 2012 award for innovation and technology. • International Parking Institute (IPI) - Parking Organisation of the Year 2013 These awards were acknowledgment of CPP’s efforts towards environmental sustainability; reducing traffic congestion and C02 emissions while utilising innovative technology.
Sustainability • The app not only saves time and effort but importantly reduces congestion and carbon emissions caused by drivers searching for spaces. • There are many direct economic savings for customers using the mobile app, including being able to save money by being aware of the various pricing scales at different car parks. • Information about CPP car park locations and parking fees at all of our car parks is readily available on the app; providing customers with a choice about where to park and how much to pay saving time.
Outcomes The mobile application project was completed both on time and within budget. City of Perth Parking has worked cooperatively with a range of event organisers and venues in the City to promote both their events and CPP car parks. By taking the hassle out of parking in the City for visitors, commuters and shoppers, the CPP mobile app encourages tourism, culture and city vibrancy. More people parking means more shoppers, more people attending events and more people doing business, which all ultimately contribute to the economic prosperity of the City. CPP have raised the bar in environmentally friendly parking technology and hope that our innovation will become the benchmark in parking standards.
