Dr Greg CusackManager, Education Quality22 October 2009 Reflections on Quality Audit
Quality Audit • Genuine opportunity to improve institution • Excellent professional development and team building exercise to lift standards • If preparation managed properly, institution should be aware of issues prior to audit visit
Performance Portfolio • Start preparation and risk assessment as soon as possible (Monash doing this) • Read as many old reports as possible and research the Panel itself thoroughly • Large reference group with high level champions – the sooner staff are involved in the process the better • Organisation charts • Position titles • Design
Mock Audit • Training program for all interviewees prior to Mock Audit • Mock Panel applies serious questioning • High level vs low level questions
Data Analysis • AUQA analyse data provided to DEEWR outside of the audit process • Can to an extent be addressed by auditing all data provided to government, finding anomalies and ensuring key staff have a response • Ensure all relevant staff are aware
Audit Visit • Room placement • Nametags • Parking • Audit Team as conduit • Open sessions • Students • Disciplinary expertise
Panel members • Views can to an extent be ascertained by requests for additional information – opportunity to amend approach • De-briefing process
Follow Up • Opportunity to comment • Media release
