How to Help a Child When Their Pet Dies

Pets are more than just pets. They are part of the family and some might even say that they are the childrenu2019s best friends growing up. Therefore when a pet dies, everyone in the household and their neighbors are affected but the ones who feel their loss the most are the children. For them the loss can be as severe as losing a friend or a close family member. For most children this may also be the first death they ever experience so knowing how to talk to them can make a lot of difference in how they process the grief of losing their pet.

  1. How to Help a Child When Their Pet Dies Pets are more than just pets. They are part of the family and some might even say that they are the children’s best friends growing up. If your pet is old or ill, talk with your kids about the possibility of the pet dying. It will help prepare them for what is to come and they will do their best to make the best out of the time

  2. they have left with their pets. Break the news to them nice and slow by telling them their pet won’t be coming back anymore. It is important to guide them the right way and you must let them ask the questions so they can get the answers they need and put their minds at ease. Even if they’re too young to comprehend death you must not give them false hope of their pets returning. Help them memorialize their pets with the help of pet cremation jewelry which can store tiny bits of ashes in them or via pet cremation urns which you can place next to their framed picture in your home. Make it known to them that feeling sadness and grief are natural responses and they should not try to hide or suppress these emotions. Help them process these emotions properly by listening to their thoughts and talking to them about life so they can get a better grasp over the concept of death from a very young age.
