THREE OF OUR ENEMIES • Ephesians 2:1-3 • The course of this world The prince of the power of the air • The lusts of our flesh • Need to know and understand the goals and tactics of the enemy • Need to know our own allies and understand our own objectives
EPHESIANS 6:10-13 • Commander is the Lord – vs. 10 • Strength for warfare – 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 15:5; Philippians 4:13 • Close to our commander – Ephesians 2:6; 6:10, 14 • Personal goal laid out – 2 Corinthians 10:5
THE OPPOSING GENERAL? • SATAN! • Matthew 4:3 – tempted Jesus • John 8:44 – murderer & liar • 1 Peter 5:8 – “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” • 2 Corinthians 4:4 – “god of this age” • 2 Corinthians 11:14 “transforms himself into an angel of light”
THE ARMOR • Only effective when we put it ALL ON • “Wiles” in vs. 11 – METHODEIA “scheme, scheming, craftiness” • 2 Corinthians 2:11 “Devices” – NOEMA which means “thought, that which is thought out, an evil purpose.” • METHODEIA – used 2 times in N.T. –Ephesians 6:11; 4:14
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE “WILES”/”DEVICES” USED BY SATAN? • Mixing just enough truth with error to make it plausible – Matthew 13:24-43 • The majority is right – Matthew 7:12-14 • Quotes Scripture – Matthew 4:6 • One sin is not so bad, God will overlook certain sins – 2 Corinthians 5:10 • Our situation is hopeless & it is useless to try – Galatians 6:9 • An angel of light – 2 Corinthians 11:14
SATAN’S HELPERS • Ephesians 6:12 • 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 • “Wrestle” - wrestling –the term is transferred to the Christian's struggle with the power of evil • 2 Chronicles 32:7 – “bad eyesight” • 2 Kings 6:16,17 “open his eyes that he may see”
“AND HAVING DONE ALL, TO STAND” • NO RETREAT! • NO COMPROMISE! • NO SURRENDER! • What does “having done all” refer to? • IF it does no describe the life you are living today as a Christian – it is high time you GET BUSY!
