Where is Parque La Piramide? Can we Create it?
What do we want ?PROJECT –TO PLANT HOPE • to demonstrate and motivate Mirandino volunteers to focus on a) planting a garden in Parque la Piramide a) teamwork b) Discuss, writeup and share community standards of behavior
Can we interconnect Volunteers? • Results of a survey: • Q.1. Do you know where the Parque la Piramide is? • 50% of people did NOT know where the PLP is, although they were standing right on it ! • Q.2: Why do you LIKE to go to PLP now ? 50% like to go see the view 30% like to go out and see the sunset 50% go to walk, walk the dog, and breathe fresh mountain air.
Parque La Piramide What is it? Where is it? • At present it is: • *a large empty space on the Calle La Piramide • Has 2 geographic levels • On a small mountaintop • Looks like an empty lot • With bamboo & grasses Fase 3 is below This is Fase 1
FASE 1 : THE VIEWNearing sunset colors …the pink hue on the mountains is the Capimelao grass which blooms only in November. Here is Fase 1: Vistarriba
PLP: Fase 2 • Fase 2 : is the Transition Path leading to Lower Level of park MOST IMPORTANT: need to evaluate stability of the earth before putting in a cemented path WHY?Rains, water runoff erosion, EARTHQUAKE ZONE
PLP: Fase 3 • Fase 3: The LOWER LEVEL of the park, about 3000 square meters, is an empty lot. Worst fear: The water runoff might cause the upper level, Fase 1, to slide and crumble onto Fase 3. What do you think is a preventive solution?
What is happening at PLPVISTARRIBA? • Neighbors are walking • Dogs leave a mess • Teens are drinking at night. • A cement walkway • A fence • A plazita unfinished • One street light
We can get help from APRUM : our town council • Aprum, with its recently elected volunteers has some funds available • Now that the rains have started, it is the right time to plant, for seeds will grow. • They can hire a gardener. • Being our leaders, we should unite with them to create & maintain PLP.
What can we do? Interconnect APRUM, a Landscape Architect & Park Users • We should meet & communicate about: • Priorities • Expectations • Functions of the park • Constraints aprum Landscape Architect Park Users And jointly establish some guidelines
BENEFITS: include volunteers • there will be more security if citizens interact harmoniously & know each other better • If they maintain the park there will be less costs • If volunteers donate & plant plants …no cost for APRUM …each will nurture their seeds, help them grow
What are we going to learn? SKILLS • Teamwork • Consensus reaching • Delegating chores & responsibilities • Planting small plants • accountability
Information to be learned • How to successfully enforce cleanliness standards • Interaction of water, rain, sun, shade with plant growth • Ecological baselines • How to guide accepted behaviors
Challenges • There needs to be very strong motivation for an individual to WANT TO FULFILL assigned teamwork. • neither duty • nor responsibility • …are forces which work here Most people rely on the strongest person to do ALL THE WORK.
We can create Parque La Piramide • Let’s get started. • Below is a chart, or timeline Which suggests a sequential order of things to be accomplished. In each box is an activity we’ll call them checkpoints.
Let’s get started • Once a series of checkpoints have been done • A MILESTONE is accomplished. • Then WE HAVE A CELEBRATION. • Organize a potluck street party to celebrate the inauguration of Parque la Piramide.
