3 Types of Harassment • 1. Verbal-becomes illegal harassment when it is unwelcome or unreasonable • May be in the form of labels or stereotypes • Mimicking an accent or method of speech • Using slurs or sounds to indicate a person • Telling racial or sexual jokes or stories • Responding to jokes via laughter • Derogatory comments
3 Types of Harassment 2. Physical Harassment • Includes assault, physical interference with normal work or movements • Many times considered horseplay • May be sexual in nature
3 Types of Harassment 3. Visual • Pictures, posters, calendars, screen savers, email • Posting jokes, calendars etc., that are sexual in nature or offensive • Sending email that is interpreted as harassment
Sexual Harassment- 2 Types 1. Quid Pro Quo • You do something for me and I will do something for you. Often takes place when a sexual favor is elicited for promotions, good evaluations, etc.

Environmental • Workplace conduct unreasonably interferes with an individual’s work performance or makes employee uncomfortable. • Sexual jokes in the workplace • Use of nicknames such as babe, honey stud, sweetheart. • Suggestive pictures, posters, calendars are displayed
