  4. Concord. Colonials encircle to British. Inflict 273 casualties on the British as they retreat to Boston. What does this do???

  5. Strengths Population. Professional army and mercenaries. Loyalists. Slaves. Weaknesses Ireland & France. Leadership and division. Supplies and geography. They had to win. No draws. British strengths and weaknesses

  6. Strengths Leadership. Home field advantage. Trade space for time. Marksmen. “A just cause.” Weaknesses Poorly organized. State sovereignty. Economic problems. Inflated currency. Military supplies and manufactured goods were in short supply. Weren’t soldiers. American strengths and weaknesses

  7. Odds and ends at the time of the Revolution • 1.8 million lived in the colonies. • 500,000 of African decent. 25,000 free. What would you do? • 5000 African-Americans served. Thousands fought for the British and tens of thousands escaped into British custody. • 17% Church membership. • 20% women married. Births out of wedlock.
