  1. Principles and Applications For Our Work For Christ Let Us Work Galatians 6:6-10

  2. The Work of Teaching… It’s a REALLY Good Thing • Paul’s focus (especially in vs. 6) is likely “preachers” who were/are worthy of financial support • Paul noted that he had received support to preach (II Corinthians 11:7-8) • Paul noted the “command” that those who preach should be supported (I Cor. 9:14) • Two points to make: • Preachers aren’t the only ones to consider • Financial support isn’t the only “payment”

  3. The Work of Teaching… It’s a REALLY Good Thing • Elders do a good work (I Timothy 3:1) • Note… Paul spends time talking about the support they deserve (I Timothy 5:17-18) • In the absence of this, a congregation should be thankful for their shepherds • Individual Members do important work • And while members aren’t compensated, they deserve to be appreciated

  4. God Knows Everything About Everything! • As we go about “God’s work,” it’s good for us to be reminded about God’s omniscience • “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked” (vs. 7) • “Make no mistake about it; you cannot cheat God” (NT Translation, Ronald Knox) • Two ways we can be deceived… • We can deceive ourselves • We can allow others to deceive us

  5. God Knows Everything About Everything! • God (who is SPIRIT and created the WORLD) knows us intimately • Each of us will choose one of two paths… • A focus on the fleshly things • The result: corruption • A focus on the spiritual things • The result: eternal life On Judgment Day, God will make ZERO mistakes – our eternity is determined by our choice

  6. The Lord’s Work Requires… “Work” • Paul NEVER tries to hide the truth about godly service, including the costs • “Let us do good to all” (vs. 10) • “Let us work” (ASV) • Note three things that Paul says about the work that Christians are to do as we “work” • We have to be careful to not “grow weary” • This is not an excuse to “take time off!”

  7. The Lord’s Work Requires… “Work” • It is possible that we could “lose heart” • “Give up” (NIV, ESV) • The reasons for giving up are immense… • I’m not making a difference • I’m still sinning from time to time • I’m losing my friends • Patience is required in our work • This is a consistent Biblical theme (see James 5:7)

  8. Application # 1 • Reset our # 1 Priority • One of the greatest dangers Christians face is getting so caught up with life on earth that we forget about what really matters • We MUST spend more time considering the word • We MUST spend more time in meaningful prayer • We MUST spend more time with brethren

  9. Application # 2 • Remember To Always Seek Opportunity to “Do Good” • No mature Christian is unaware of this command • But most Christians forget about this command • The Holy Spirit wants us to do good to non-Christians • When’s the last time I did this? • Note: this is an incredible teaching opportunity

  10. Application # 2 • The Holy Spirit wants us to do good to Christians • We can NEVER be found guilty of being kinder to strangers than to our brethren! • We can NEVER assume that someone else will do the good deed that needs to get done No Christian has to ask “permission” in order to go about doing good to others!

  11. Application # 3 • Resolve To Be More Thankful • Be specific and communicative in thanksgiving • Share your thankfulness with • Preachers • Elders • Teachers Don’t take these people for granted…
