Franz Marc Biography • Franz Marc was born in 1880 in Munich. • He is one of the most famous German Expressionist artists. He was interested in using colour in new and exciting ways. Nearly all works of art created by Franz Marc show animals. He liked animals and saw in them innocent beings in harmony with nature. In addition to his use of colour to express emotions, he wanted to paint the world from the perspective of the animals. It was the combination of these that led to his paintings with vividly coloured animals such as bright blue horses and yellow cows. • Franz Marc died in Verdun 1916 during World War Ι.
