Veterans Bureau: • was composed of several different bureaus including War Risk Insurance Bureau and the General Charles E. Sawyer's Federal Hospitalization Bureau • the bureaus worked together to oversee the needs of World War 1 veterans who needed hospitalization, job training, and medical care • established on Aug. 9th, 1921
Conference of Unemployment in 1921: • headed by Herbert Hoover, Secretary of Commerce • advocated stimulating the economy with local public projects and encouraged businesses to apply shared work programs
Revenue Act of 1924: • decreased personal income tax rates while increasing the estate tax and creating a gift tax to reinforce the transfer tax system
Curtis-Crisp Act: • said the government would create a federal board that would lend money to farmer co-operatives but only in times of surplus • the bill wasn’t passed by Congress
McNary–Haugen Farm Relief Bill: • this bill was favored by Congress: it would’ve created a farm board that would purchase surplus production from farmers and hold it for later sale, or they would sell it overseas • Coolidge vetoes this bill
Planned to reform the nations regulatory system • based on his beliefs that a federal bureaucracy should have limited regulation over a country's economic system • Proposed a federal department of education • Began the construction of the boulder dam (later renamed the hoover dam) • Canceled private oil leases on government lands.
