Contests • We will all have a chance to participate in several Contests. • Academic- a competition based on EVERYTHING Latin, from Grammar to Mythology • Creative Arts- Students can participate in performances of oratories or ancient Roman dramas, as well as submit essays, design costumes, and write slogans for JCL. • Graphic Arts- Students can submit any type of artwork from any type of Media (Paintings, Drawings, Pottery, Digital Arts, etc…)
Contests Continued • Olympika and Ludi- Athletic and Team Sporting Events • CERTAMEN….- Contest of Scholarly knowledge and speed! (Warm up your buzzer pressing fingers!!) • Open Certamen- Certamen, but non-competitive
Other Fun Activities • Talent show • Georgia Classical Association Banquet • Student and Teacher Workshops in Latin • Student and Teacher of the Year Luncheon • Spirit Contest • Social Dances and Movies • And much more….
Convention Rules and Regulations • Your nametag must be worn at all times • No driving vehicles • No leaving until the end of the convention • No illegal substances, alcohol, or tobacco products • No fireworks • No Co-Ed housing • Midnight Curfew • Attend all general assemblies • No swimming in the lake • Sponsors, chaperones, and JCL students MUST behave • No loud music after 11 p.m.
What to bring • Sleeping bag and pillow • Blanket • Towel and toiletries • Snacks to last 3 days, money for the Canteen (supply/food store) • Running shoes, hiking shoes, workout clothes, A TOGA • Flashlight • Pens and Pencils • Materials for Competitions/ Projects
Election Info • Every year, four officers are elected by the whole convention to the GJCL: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Parliamentarian. • Rules for students running for office are: Basically, be a good Latin student, and take Latin throughout your role in office; Candidates must attend the Nominations Committee Meeting and Candidates` Open Forum with a chaperone; Candidates can only spend up to $10 dollars on their campaigning advertisements; duties are laid out in the NJCL Constitution.
Other important notes • You may apply for GJCL scholarships on the GJCL website and email applications to scholarships@gjcl.orgDeadline for scholarship applications is April 1st • Awards will be given out for winners of each competition! • Don’t forget your TOGA!!!
