I. Fearing the Giants A) Remember what 10 of the 12 spies came back and said when they had gone to spy out the land? (Numbers 13:25-33) B) As a result then of Israel’s lack of faith in God they did not receive the blessing of taking the land of Canaan in that generation.
II. Fighting Giants A) Caleb (Joshua 15:13-14) B) David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17) C) Samson (Judges 3:31; 14:1-4; 15) D) The children of Israel kept fighting the Philistines and their giants over and over again because they did not completely destroy them in the beginning.
III. Fighting Giants Again A) David’s second battle wasn't nearly as glorious as David's first encounter with Goliath. B) This time were it not for a friend of David who came to his rescue, this giant would have killed David.
IV. What Can We Learn? A) The battle is the Lord’s (Deut. 9:3; 1 Sam. 17:46-47) B) We must not cower in fear C) Past victories don't get us through present battles.
IV. What Can We Learn? D) Our adversary isn't impressed by our reputation (Ephesians 6:10-20) E) The fact that you have done battle with a giant in the past and been victorious doesn’t mean you won’t have other giants to battle. F) We must be vigilant.
