  1. Kittiwake Coast Buys Local KEDC launched Buy Local Campaign in 2007 to promote quality of local produce Worked with Zone 14 farmers to create an inventory of food products produced in the area Goals: to raise awareness and to increase purchasing of local products.

  2. REDB Role: REDB worked with ACOA, INTRD, NLFA and industry to develop a sound promotional medium for local foods, using strong messaging to portray its benefits • Participating retailers provided with signage, stickers and brochures about benefits of buying local

  3. Example of Buy Local Signage

  4. Campaign expanded to restaurants in 2008 to highlight local products, including produce, seafood, desserts and wines • Buy Local Suppliers Database developed in 2009: includes product lists, contact information, delivery information and special instructions from suppliers of baked goods, berries, beverages, seafood, meat and poultry and produce

  5. Printed binder of database was also distributed to 170 grocery retailers and restaurants in the zone

  6. Outcomes: • Exit Survey of Retailers indicates success • Many residents now asking for local products • Several retailers have initiated their own Buy Local campaigns
