Introduction to ODEs • Definition A differential equation is an equation for a function that relates the values of the function to the values of its derivatives. Eg. • A differential equation whose unknown function depends on a single independent variable is called an ordinary differential equation (ODE). • A differential equation whose unknown function depends on several independent variables is called a partial differential equation (PDE). Eg. Wave equation
