UNIT 2 COMMUNITY GROWTH AND INVOLVEMENT PPL 4O V. WILSON
LEADERSHIP SOCIAL SKILLS – COMMUNICATION MOTIVATION ORGANIZING AND RUNNING EVENTS REFLECTING ON EVENTS UNIT CONCEPTS
SUMMATIVE EVALUATION • Students will be involved in collaborating on an event (pre-lesson, lesson questions, game, written game, reflection) • You will work with a group but you will be evaluated individually • You will be creating, running and evaluating a modified version of “Prey and Predator” or “Capture the Pilon” type games
Formative Evaluations • Students will participate in a variety of sports and group activities during this unit • Students will be engaged in theory lessons and assignments to further support their learning
Unit Sports Focus • Floor Hockey • Soccer • Flag Football • Weight Room
LEADERSHIP • Prior to this you were to define 3 styles of leadership: • 1. Authoritarian leaders, also known as autocratic leaders, provide clear expectations for what needs to be done, when it should be done, and how it should be done
LEADERSHIP • 2. Participative leadership, also known as democratic leadership, is generally the most effective leadership style. Democratic leaders offer guidance to group members, but they also participate in the group and allow input from other group members.
LEADERSHIP • Delegative leadership, also known as laissez-fair leadership, offers little or no guidance to group members and leave decision-making up to group members
STUDENT ACTIVITY • Perform “True Colors” activity • It is a personality quiz that will give you insight as to what kind of leadership qualities you have so you can understand your strengths and areas of weakness in a leadership position.
COMMUNICATION • How do you communicate with others? • How do you communicate with the general public? In school? • Do communication activities.
MOTIVATION • INTRINSIC – motivated by something internal to them, something personal and inside of them (personal success or feeling good about their accomplishments) • EXTRINSIC – motivated by something like material goods, money, promotions, marks, recognition.
EVENTS • For this class the event you will run is a “Prey and Predator” game • You will lead it for your class • You will be assessed on the key themes: leadership, communication and motivation
REFLECTION OF EVENT • After an event it is always important to reflect upon how successful your event was • There will be a reflection sheet at the end of this unit
AGAIN: THEMES • Leadership • Communication • Motivation • I want to see evidence of these themes throughout this unit and sum it up with your game
