  2. Introduction One of the Challenges facing those who were exposed to the pains of Landmines in Sudan is reintegrating them in society . To support them to be active members, The Sudan Campaign to Ban Landmines sought funding from the EC in Sudan. So a Contract was signed on Dec 10th 07 Between the EU and Sudan Campaign to Ban Landmines-SCBL-, and the implementation immediately started with the three main partners of the project, i.e. Sudanese Red Crescent as an implementing partner in Kassala Islamic Relief Agency which is the implementing partner in Aldamazine, Blue Nile State and Mubadiroon Organization for prevention of Disaster and War Impacts

  3. Aim &Goals The purpose of the Project is to empower the Landmines victims to stand against discrimination and mainstream them in the Human Rights System and the public life in Sudan

Aim &Goals The Project and from the beginning aimed: • To sensitise and educate the Landmines’ Victims on disability rights •To Establish 3 Associations for the Landmines Victims in Kadugli, Al Damazine and Kassala • To protect the rights of the Landmines Victims. • To train them and through workshops, and community focal contact groups to monitor, document and report on violation and abuses of the Landmines Victims. • To prevent the marginalisation of and discrimination against the Landmines Victims • To ensure the active participation of the Landmines Victims in political and socio-economic activities in their communities and States.

What We Achieved Establishment of Landmines Victims Associations As planned , and for the very first time in The History of the country The SCBL and Partners ,Established three registered landmines Victims’ Associations in Al Damazine, Kadogli and Kassla. The Associations with membership well above 1000 at the beginning , started strongly and with volunteers staff and well established offices , they are all operational and in fact in so short period brought a lot of change in the lives of the landmines victims. For example, many national and international donors have begun to work closely with them . An excellent example is the change that the Associations have brought is in Kadogli, within a span of less than a year, they were able to provide more than 100 members with income generation means, such as shops, mills and tyre repair workshops. Involving the Communities all the way The Partners and the SCBL utilized the Local TV & Radio stations in the targeted States to cover the activities of the 3 Associations at the early stages of the project. TV and Radio Programs covered varios issues such as the disabled rights and the Ottawa Treaty to Ban Landmines as well as the domestic Disability laws. The members of the newly established associations were active participants and in most of the instances and they were the main speakers in addition to members of SCBL .

  7. Landmines’ Victims and human rights • Workshops were conducted for 100 Land Mines’ Victims in Khartoum State, titled: Human Rights, Disabled Rights and Peace Building. The workshop covered : • Conflict Resolution • Peace building Mechanism • Durable Peace • Human Rights • Disabled rights • The civil society was quite active and involved, in fact the participation of these CBOs and NGOs was an added value to the project, for ot opened new horizons for the victims as well as attracted new partners to the cause of landmines in the country. • Also 60 members from the newly established associations were trained on Human Rights , Disabled Rights ,lobbying and advocacy , the objective is to make them more awre of the tools that would mke them more able to deal with various issues such as reintegration, rights advocacy and how to involve the authorities in order to achieve the required services

  8. Involving the Civil society in Peace and Disability issues Staff members from 25 national organizations were active participants in the program. A course was implemented to equip the civil society with a trained staff on peace building and conflict resolution and learning the tools of that make them more involved in community concerns such as ,Types of negotiations, Peace building process, Peace building sustainability.
