Fishing 2004 • In 2004 several government and non-government organizations came together in a meeting to come up with a plan to organize and keep being involved in the fishing sectors of Barbados. The government had gathered fishermen, boat owners and etc. to split in groups on the best fishing areas in Barbados to get more involved and informed of where they can get as much fish as possible to keep up the industry and to keep it growing and still have it running. The government had also provided these fishermen and boat owners more fishing equipment for the best fish possible and they would be prepared for annual fishing seasons to come.
Industry marine fisheries • Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands, and is entirely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Barbados is less than 20o nautical miles from the north, west and south. The potential extended marine jurisdiction has been estimated at approximately 48,800 km2 of ocean. The surrounding oceanic surface waters are low on nutrients, thermally stable and of low productivity.
