Eris • The evil goddess of Discord • Not well liked • Threw a golden apple in a basket marked for the fairest lady
The start • Aphrodite Hera and Athena all believe they deserve the apple • Ask Zeus to judge but he wisely declines • They then choose Paris • Aphrodite promises the fairest woman in all the land would be his • Paris gives Aphrodite the apple
Helen • The fairest woman in all the land • Many men were waiting for her hand • They all promise not to steal her • Paris jumps in and takes her
Angered men • They realize that Helen is gone • Menelaus was the first to notice her disappearance • He then called upon all of Greece to form a army
Anger • One of Artemises beloved wild creatures had been killed • He then made the ocean wavy and unable to sail on • A warrior then killed one of his own to calm the waters • They then sailed to the mouth of the Simois river
Fighting Begins • Victory wavered for nine years • Another woman caused more trouble • After this the Greeks had the upper hand
Paris and Menelaus • Both armies separated to both sides with the two most concerned warriors in the middle • Paris threw his spear but it was blocked • Menelaus drew his sword but dropped it Because of a broken hand • Aphrodite swooped down and took Paris from his certain death
Hector • him and Ajax fought • Ajax hurled hector to the ground • This gave the Greeks the upper hand once again • They went on to win that battle
More fighting • Once again the fighting started but thanks to Zeus the Greeks great fighter was in hiding • This gave the upper hand to the Trojans • Hector after seeing his wife and son regained energy • He was invincible and fought the Greeks off fiercely
The final fights • Once again the Greeks were driven backs all the way to there ships • Hera helped by dressing up as gorgeous as she good to distract Zeus from helping the Trojans • As soon as this happened Ajax hurled hector to the ground • The Greeks then were able to push the Trojans back from there ships
The final fights Cont • With the help of the sea god, the Trojans regained control • It stayed this way until the final battle between Hector and Achilles
Hector and Achilles • Hector Tried to run but hector was distracted by Hera • Now confronted by Achilles, hector flung his spear but missed • Hector drew out his final weapon (sword) • He charged Achilles but was stopped cold by a spear
Humiliation • Afterward His body was tied to a horse • It was drug around troy three times • This was done until he felt full vengence
Hectors burial • For nine days they lamented him • They then laid him on a lofty pyre and set fire to it • When it had all burned they quenched the flame with wine • They gathered the bones, put them in a urn and buried it in a shallow grave with rocks thrown on top • With the funeral ends the Iliad
