  5. Social Skills • Social skills are sets of behaviours that enable individuals to interact with one another in ways that are socially acceptable. • Students will be taught social skills in a concrete, step-by-step manner.

Literacy Through Photography The main objectives of the LTP (Literacy Through Photography) programme are as follows: • To develop language, visual and global literacies through photography. • To build the confidence of our students as they experience success in their creative expressions. Capture photographs of textures in our environment using close-up technique # P2 LTP Tasks

HOMEWORK GUIDELINES – OBJECTIVES Homework can: • reinforce learning and deepen understanding of lessons taught • allow students to regularly practise, and apply skills and concepts taught; • develop good study skills and habits; • encourage greater ownership and responsibility for independent learning.

  9. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS Students should: • understand the purpose of homework and what is expected of them; • keep track of homework instructions and deadlines in the handbook;

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS • manage time well to ensure that homework is completed and submitted on time; • give his/her best effort in completing homework within agreed time; • inform the teacher of any difficulties in completion of the homework; and • review feedback from teachers on homework submitted.

  11. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT Parents can: • create a conducive home environment for studying and completion of homework; • supervise and provide support for child’s learning; • reinforce good study habits and attitudes FTPPS HOMEWORK GUIDELINES

  12. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT • be mindful of the stresses arising from school homework and out-of-school activities, and help their children prioritise their time among these activities; • work in partnership with teachers to support child’s learning and development.

  13. Student Handbook • Students must bring their handbook every day. • All homework will be written on class whiteboard. • Students are to record important information into their student handbook. • Parents are requested not to give too much assistance but close monitoring is appreciated.

  14. Student Handbook • Form teacher hopes that parents will try to look at your child’s handbook daily if possible. • Teacher will usually have homework or updates about your child via the handbook. There may also be messages for you. • Communication can be through handbook.

Helping your child …in English Language • Provide Opportunities for your child • Read – signboards, notices at the lift lobby • Visit the NLB to read &/or borrow books • Attend storytelling sessions at the library • Encourage a reading culture at home • Do the reading log • Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading • Bring story books to school for the USSR period every day • Time management • Sitting through parts of the paper and whole paper • Reinforce Classroom Teaching • Dolch List

Helping your child …in Math • Provide problem solving opportunities for your child • Read the problem a few times • Understand what the problem is really about • Alternative ways to solve the problem • Master the Basics • Addition by counting on • Subtraction by counting backwards • Multiplication tables • Number bonds – making 10, 100, 1000 • Time management • Sitting through parts of the paper and whole paper • Reinforce Classroom Teaching

  20. Mother Tongue Assignments • Weekly Spelling on Wednesdays (unless otherwise stated) • Vocab/Grammar Exercises • Penmanship Exercises • Reading Log • Holistic Assessments to test 5 Skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing & 2-Way Communication)

Helping your child …in Mother Tongue • Provide Opportunities for your child • Encourage your child to speak in MT Language as often as possible • Reinforce what your child had learnt in school • Interact in MT during family bonding sessions • Encourage your child to learn through language games, eg. Ezhishi (CL), Tinta (ML), Sangamam (TL) • Bring your child to library/bookstores to cultivate reading habit • Watch quality MT Language TV programmes together • Make use of objects in your environment such as advertisement to encourage your child to converse in MT

  22. P.E. / Physical Health & Fitness • Be in P.E. attire (P.E. T-shirt and P.E. shorts) on P.E. days • Bring a water bottle every day, especially on P.E. days • Bring the P2 PHF book to school • You may go through some of the family activities together with your child • Your child can also bring a fruit for Snack Break to inculcate the habit of eating fruits and vegetables.

  23. P.E. - Swimsafer Programme • Aims to teach swimming proficiency and water survival skills to children • Starting Term 2 Week 1 – 8 (on Wednesday for 8 sessions) • More details will be given closer to the date

Pre-assembly Programmes • National Education/Core Value/Science & Math Talk/English & MRL Sharing every Monday • Share-a-Story every Tuesday • Workout Wednesday every Wednesday • Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading every Thursday and Friday * Please get your child to bring a storybook to school every day
