Module Aims • This module aims to provide students with opportunities to: • develop skills in the use of electronic media; • apply research methodologies to new media; • use electronic media as a means of documenting and presenting artwork to audiences in a range of formats; • engage with professional practice and strategies in relation to electronic presentation and promotion of studio practice
Learning Outcomes • Upon successful completion of this module, students should be able to: • Art Skills • Demonstrate creativity, skill and a comprehensive understanding of materials & process as tools of experiment and enquiry; • Demonstrate a practical understanding of how established visual research methods are used to create ideas and interpret knowledge.
Indicative Curriculum Content: • Students will write a formal ‘website proposal’ for the module, which will inform the assessment criteria used to assess this module;
Indicative Curriculum Content: • Students will produce a professionally presented website that must be arranged for easy uploading of images etc to make the site function as: • Marketing tool; • Gallery or Catalogue; • Digital Journal / Sketchbook: allowing the viewing of work in progress and long-distance critical discussion between student, peers and staff; • Database: a flexible space for research material from other MA modules (as appropriate); • Research Links;
Mode of Assessment • (4000 word equivalent): • A professionally presented website which must function as: • Marketing Tool, • Gallery or Catalogue, • Digital Journal / Sketchbook, • Research Database, • Links, • written ‘website proposal’ for the module, • back-up/supporting material. • (Note: Content of site is NOT assessed).
Assessment Criteria / Learning Outcomes • These are to be informed by the written ‘website proposal’ produced by each student: • Art skills • Demonstrate creativity, skill and a comprehensive understanding of materials & process as tools of experiment and enquiry; • Demonstrate a practical understanding of how established visual research methods are used to create ideas and interpret knowledge. • Critical skills • Demonstrate a systematic understanding of knowledge. • Key skills: • communicate conclusions clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences in verbal, written and visual forms; • demonstrate self-direction and individuality in identification and solving problems; • act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level, inc. good working practices; • Source, manage and present information through IT systems.
Learning Strategies • Group teaching with individual support; • There normally be 8 x 2 hour workshop sessions. All students will produce a working web site that fits with their aims; • There will be a group crit presentation at mid-point.
