Review: • Yesterday we talked about two different types of genres. What are they? Explain them.
9-9-10 Objectives: • I will review genres in reading and writing. • Today’s focus is on mystery and informational. • S will write two short papers using today’s focus genres.
Vocabulary: • Mystery-A suspenseful story about a puzzling event hat is not solved until the end of the story. • Informational-Texts that provide facts about a variety of topics (sports, animals, science, history, careers, travel, geography, space, weather, presidents, etc…)
Introduction to Mystery: • Can be real or fictional characters. • Mysteries are stories where a problem, crime, or puzzle must be solved.
Introduction to Informational: • The information is real. • The people are real. • The facts can be proved.
Look through the books on your table. • Do you have any books that you think are Informational? • Do you have any books that are Mysteries?
The Task: Write two stories: One story will be an informational type writing. The second will be a mystery! Have fun with the mystery!
Guidelines: • The stories do not have to be that long. • However, you do need to introduce the characters and tell me about them. • You will also need to make me understand how they are Realistic Fiction and an autobiography. • Have a beginning, middle and end. • If you do not finish in class these are for homework.
Closure: • Name a book you have read that is one of the types of genres we talked about today. • How do you know it is from that genre? • Use facts to support your answer.
Long Term Review: • Tuesday we talked about fantasy books. • What are those?
