2. Introduction About ¾ of the Earth is covered with water. Most of that water is ocean water. Ocean water is a mixture of water and many dissolved solids, mostly salts.

3. Water Cycle What is the water cycle? The water cycle is the recycling of water. Earth’s water is always being recycled. Heat from the sun causes fresh water to evaporate, or change to water vapor, from the oceans, which leaves the salt behind. The water vapor then condenses, or changes to a cloud. The next and final part is precipitation, or the cloud coming down as rain, snow, hail, or sleet.

4. Water cycle As you can see the water cycle turns water to gas and then back to water. This process consists of evaporation, condensation and precipitation.

5. Ocean Water Most of the salt in oceans come from the land. Flow of water in rivers slowly break down land and carry it to the ocean. Near places where rivers empty into the ocean, the ocean water is less salty than it is farther from the shore. This is because the fresh water mixes with the salt water. Ocean water is a little saltier near the equator, where it is hot and water evaporates faster. Ocean water is a little less salty near the North and South Poles, where it is colder and water evaporates more slowly.
