POTENCIAL MINERO DE LA REGIÓN LAMBAYEQUE Las posibilidades de desarrollar una industria minera en Lambayeque tiene necesariamente que considerar los siguientes hechos: 1.- La falta de una industria minera no permite que esta Región se beneficie de los ingresos del Canon Minero como sí sucede con otras regiones aledañas como Cajamarca y La Libertad que en el 2004 recibieron por este concepto la cantidad de 182 y 16 millones de soles respectivamente. 2.- Los ingresos por derecho de vigencia son igualmente bajos, alrededor de 130,000 dólares. Esto es debido a que las áreas concesionadas para la minería son alrededor de 70,000 hectáreas, unas 10 veces menos que en las regiones vecinas de Cajamarca y La Libertad.

POTENCIAL MINERO DE LA REGIÓN LAMBAYEQUE 3.- En los últimos años con la estabilización de la economía del país y con una serie de medidas promocionales de esta actividad, algunas compañías mineras nuevas han aparecido en la Región. Este es el caso de las Cías Junior Inca Pacific, Bear Creek, Gitennes, Solitario Resources, Panoro, Orex Ventures así como otras mayores como Minsur, Anglogold y Barrick. 4.- La Región Lambayeque compite necesariamente con otras regiones del país que son mucho más atractivas por su geología, su infraestructura y tradición minera. Sin embargo, su potencial debe ser explorado a fin de atraer la inversión privada.
