  2. Comments by Principal Devine • Respectful Behavior • Personal Responsibility • We’re all in this together

  3. Grades and Attendance • ALL requirements for graduation must be met. . . no exceptions. • Unexcused absences and tardies can result in failing a course. • Absences from school for “skip” days are unexcused absences.

  4. Behavior • Senior “pranks,” especially those that result in vandalism or disruption of classes, will result in suspension from school and/or the graduation ceremony. • Involvement with alcohol or other drugs results in mandatory suspension from school and could include exclusion from graduation ceremonies.

  5. Financial Obligations • Seniors must settle all financial and property obligations before graduating. (Textbooks, library books, sports uniforms, lab equipment, parking fines) • A list of senior obligations covering the last four years will be given to seniors at practice.

  6. Financial Obligations Continued • Obligations must be cleared with the financial secretary, Mrs. Staub, no later than the June 3, 2013 practice. • Financial concerns regarding securing appropriate graduation attire should be directed to Ms. Leonard or Mrs. Boyll. This is confidential.

  7. Graduation Practices • Thursday, May 30, Friday, May 31, and Monday, June 3 at 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Auditorium. • ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY! • Exceptions must be addressed to Principal Fargo-Devine by Monday, May 13, 2013. Going to work is not an excused absence. • Since practices occur during the regular school day, all school rules apply. Seniors who come to practice late will be held after practice. • Seniors must exit the building after each practice. • Except for practice or exams, Seniors may not be in the building or on school grounds after May 29.

  8. Graduation Dress • Young Men: Dark pants, light color or white dress shirt, tie, dress shoes with dark socks. No jeans, work boots, sandals, or sneakers. • Young Ladies: Dress, skirt, or black pants, black dress shoes. No shorts or sneakers. Shoes should be comfortable for walking, standing, and climbing stairs.

  9. Mortarboards (Caps), Gowns, and Gum • Wear your mortarboard (cap) on the top of your head, not resting on the back of your head. The cap should be parallel to the floor. • Gowns should be wrinkle-free; Follow directions for ironing. • NO GUM. • Only approved cords, medals, and pins are permitted to be worn with the gown.

  10. Cell Phones and other Electronic Devices • Cell Phones are to be given to parents/relatives prior to entering Knott Arena. Seniors will check in through the bubble, and cell phones will be collected and retrieved after graduation. • No IPODS, MP3s, cameras, other electronic devices, keys, flowers, purses or other items are permitted. • Guests are asked not to bring noise makers to the ceremony.

  11. Graduation Day • Seniors must be in line by 1:30 p.m. at Mount Saint Mary’s Knott Arena. (First attendance taken) • Only seniors and MHS Faculty and Staff are permitted upstairs at Knott Arena. • All MHS and FCPS Rules apply before and during graduation.

  12. Graduation Tickets • A ticket is required for admission to graduation. • Each senior will receive 7 tickets at practice. • Tickets will be distributed Friday, May 31 at Graduation Practice. • There are no additional tickets this year. Students may give unused tickets to friends.

  13. Seating • Handicap accommodation requests should be made by Wednesday, May 24, 2013. The request form is included in your packet. • Questions regarding handicap accommodations should be addressed to Ms. MacMillan at 240-236-7434. • All other seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your family/friends should leave Middletown by 12:15 p.m. to allow for travel time. • The doors to the Arena open at 12:45 p.m.

  14. Start of Ceremony • Without Exception, all doors will close at 1:50 (10 minutes before the ceremony begins.) This is to allow for the graduate and faculty processional. • Doors will re-open after the processional. PLEASE TELL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS, SO THAT THEY WILL BE PREPARED.

  15. Photography • A commercial photographer will take your picture as you receive your diploma from Principal Fargo-Devine and again as you exit the stage. • Your guests are not to leave their seats to take pictures. • You will receive information directly from the photographer for photo and/or DVD orders.

  16. Behavior at Graduation • The graduation ceremony is a serious, dignified, and formal ceremony in which every student deserves an equal opportunity for recognition without interference or embarrassment. • Graduates and their guests are requested to hold all applause and cheers until the last graduate leaves the stage. • The last graduate receiving a diploma will lead the class in turning its tassel.

  17. Senior Upcoming Events • Applications to audition for graduation Speakers/ Singers will be available in Ms. Nicklas’ room (210) beginning April 22. • Monday, April 22: Senior Showcase Deadline for Acts • Saturday, April 27: Senior Showcase in the Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. • Wednesday, May 1: Auditions for speakers and singers for graduation will be in the chorus room at 2:30 p.m.

  18. Senior Upcoming Events • Friday, May 3: Junior/Senior Prom at the Hager Hall, Hagerstown from 8:00-11:00 p.m. • Monday, May 6-17: AP Testing, students will be notified of their locations and times • Friday, May 10: Mr. Middletown in the Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. • Tuesday, May 28: Last day for Seniors-Senior Exam Day. Seniors attend all day.

  19. Senior Events Continued • Wednesday, May 29: Exam Make up Day (only Seniors with exams to make up should attend) • Thursday, May 30: Graduation Rehearsal in the Auditorium from 8:00-11:30 a.m. • Friday, May 31: Graduation Rehearsal in the auditorium from 8:00-11:30 a.m. The senior picnic will follow graduation practice at the Middletown Park Pavilion.

  20. Senior Events Continued • Sunday, June 2: Baccalaureate in the Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Wear Gowns, but not caps. • Monday, June 3: Graduation Rehearsal in the auditorium from 8:00-11:30 a.m. (bring caps and gowns). Cap and Gown picture taken in the gym at 8:30 a.m. • Monday, June 3: Senior Awards Ceremony in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

  21. Graduation Day:June 4, 2013 • Graduation at 2:00 p.m. in Knott Arena at Mount St. Mary’s University. Seniors are to enter Knott Arena through the bubble on parking lot side and check in. • Seniors must be present no later than 1:30 p.m. in the upstairs section.

  22. And Finally . . . • Voting for Prom King and Queen; • Distribution of Informational Packet; • Pick up caps and gowns, Class t-shirts, and announcements; • Make smart decisions for yourself and make your graduation a spectacular event for your family and you!
