Breaking Out of the Binary • Binaries are groupings or “dyads” such as man/woman, gay/straight, black/white, etc. • Binaries restrict our range of identifying • One part of a binary is often privileged over another

Miami DemographicsInternational Students • In 2003-04, 349 international students (non-immigrant student visas) representing 64 countries enrolled at Miami. • In 2003-04, 88 visiting international professors, researchers, and specialists representing 32 countries visited Miami.
