Ecology • Ecology is the study of ecosystems. • Give examples of an individual, population, and community in an ecosystem. • What is an ecosystem.
Individual • One single organism.
Population • All the individuals of one kind (one species) in a specified area at one time.
Community • All the interacting populations in a specified area.
Ecosystem • A system of interacting organisms and nonliving factors in a specified area.
Biotic and Abiotic • Biotic Factors: Living organisms and products of organisms • Abiotic Factors: Nonliving things in an ecosystem.
Activity: Card Sorting • You will work in groups of two. • One deck of ecosystem cards • Sort cards into different piles. • The piles should be: Individuals, Populations, Communities, Ecosystems, and Abiotic Factors • Record card-sort onto the given worksheet.
