PerfectImperfections • Scriptures and life prove that we are far from perfect. • The beauty of the Lord’s church, however, is that there are followers of Jesus who strive to become more like our Savior. • And, therein lies the silver lining: Our “imperfections” allow us perfect opportunities to practice being kingdom life in the church.
Differing members: One body • Different members = Differing ministries. 1 Co 12:4ff • One has a gift of wisdom, another of knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, discerning spirits, tongues, interpreting tongues, etc., etc., etc. vss. 5-10 • All members – no matter what the gift – are important to the body adds value to it. Vss. 12-26 • The central focus: God is adding to the body what we are lacking for the purpose of making it WHOLE/COMPLETE. v. 11
Imperfect People Doing Perfect Things1 Corinthians 13 • Forgiving one another. • Believing the best others. • Living in harmony with people who are different: • In culture • In upbringing • Personal experiences • All the “differences” affect how they view/interpret/prioritize scriptures and apply them.
When you fall into various trials James 1:2ff • These are the moments when we grow individually and collectively. • These moments also bind us closer to one another’s lives. • These are the moments that bring us into a “mature unit” in Christ. Cp. Eph. 4:14-16
We Share Each Other’s BurdensGalatians 6:2 • One person’s burdens can seem unbearable • Two helps, but is still tremendous: • The person helping can also feel overwhelmed. • When the whole body shares in one another’s burdens: it is much more bearable and we draw closer to one another through the trial. • We fulfill the law of Christ – and are truly “One in Christ”.
