  4. Ionic hydrides • Write the chemical symbol for the hydride ion. • Write the chemical formula for: • Sodium hydride • Aluminium hydride • Write chemical equations for the reaction of the above with water.

In what state are hydrides at room temperature? • Does the hydride ion act as an oxidising or reducing agent in chemical reactions? • Draw a diagram to illustrate the electrolysis of molten aluminium hydride. • Write ion-electrons to illustrate what is happening. • Write a redox equation for the reaction.
